Metamorphic Rocks
The metamorphic rocks are formed by the alteration of the pre-existing rocks, which had undergone a change due to high temperature or pressure or the action of chemical agents give rise to metamorphic rock. The petrological section in the Geology Gallery housed in the main hall includes metamorphic rock case.
The important features of metamorphic rocks are
- Generally they have hard interlocking grains.
- Fossils are rarely preserved in rocks of sedimentary origin.
- Andalusite, kyanite, sillimanite and garnet are the common minerals.
The important metamorphic rocks such as mica schist, amphibolite, slate, chlorite schist and marble are on display.
