Coins of MarathaKing Shivaji (1627-1680 C.E.)
- Shivaji rising from a soldier in the servie of Golkonda managed to establish a kingdom in Konkan region. At the same time, his brother Ekaji established his rule in the South Thanjavur.
- Coins of Shivaji bear legend in Nagari “Chhatrapati” on the obverse and ‘Sri Raja Siva’ on the reverse, displayed hyere. (Weight 3.35 grams, DiaL1,4 Cms, Metal:Silver).
- Marathas also issued coins in copper and Gold.
- These Coins were unearthed from Melnariyappanur, Kallakurichi Taluk, Villupuram Dist.
