The Indus valley civilization was an ancient civilization that was located in the parts of present day’s Pakistan and northwestern India. [Approximate Age: 3300 BCE - 1300 BCE (Mature Period: 2600 BCE - 1900 BCE) ]

Inhabitants of the ancient Indus river valley developed new techniques in building construction, making objects out of carnelian, steatite, chert, agate, terracotta and copper, seal carving and metallurgy (of copper, bronze, lead and tin). Writing system was there.

Numerous terracotta figurines of human beings and animals have been found in the houses of Mohenjo-Daro. Among them, A very popular and ornate figurine is that of this mother goddess. It is adorned with elaborate headgear and ornaments of hip and neck. The object perhaps represents people’s reverence for the birth-giving ‘mother’ or ‘female’ or ‘fertility’; Also, it could possibly symbolize the ‘mother’ earth for all ‘her’ bounties or creations.
