THE NILGIRI LANGUR

THE NILGIRI LANGUR

The Nilgiri Langur is a fairly heavily built, glossy black or black brown Langur with a yellowish brown head. It inhabits the hill tracts of Southern India and is found on the Western Ghats from Coorg to Cape Comorin, the Nilgiris, Anamalai, and Tirunelveli hills, usually at elevations ranging from 3000 to 6000 feet. It lives in dense woods of the evergreen forest and moves about in small groups of about five to ten individuals. It’s fur is fine and glossy and its flesh is supposed to be of medicinal value.
