JUNGLE FOWL

JUNGLE FOWL

The grey jungle fowl (Gallus sonneratii) is greyish, with and a metallic black, and sickle-shaped tail. This species occurs throughout Southern and Western India in hilly and well-wooded country. It is generally found singly or in small parties in forest and scrub jungles and comes out to feed only in the early morning and late evenings and remains hiding away in thick cover during the heat of the day. It feeds on grains, seeds, insects, grubs, small fruits, berries, tender shoots and roots.
