LAMBADI ORNAMENTS & FABRIC

The early 20th Century artifacts of Lambadi ethnic people are from Telengana. Cotton fabric, threads, mirror, cowries, beads and wool go into their making.

Lambadi language belongs to Indo Aryan sub-group of the larger Indo-European language family. Lambadi, who originally hail from Rajasthan, have settled in various parts of India and especially in large numbers in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telengana. Their garments have designs consisting of geometrical patterns made of cross, stem and herringbone stitches. ‘Bakia’, a kind of backstitch is also found in their only ceremonial textile, which has the embroidery called as ‘Kothala’, or ‘Kotli’.
